Paternoster - West Coast Winter Escape
This wind swept fishing village on South Africa’s West Coast is a perfect place to escape from the city and unwind. My recent long week-end visit included wandering amongst whitewashed cottages and experiencing local cuisine. This once remote and tiny hamlet has become a popular destination for weary city dwellers and I can see why.
Sitting on rough wooden benches, we savoured fresh calamari at the quaint Voorstrandt Restaurant, washed down with crisp Sauvignon Blanc. The restaurant is aptly named for its on-the-beach location –once a fisherman’s home, it is built from wood and corrugated iron. Ask about the catch of the day, so fresh you can taste the sea!
