With the plight of South Africa's White Rhino becoming more concerning each day, Shamwari Game Reserve have taken the initiative to join forces with the Wilderness Foundation and help raise awareness for the Forever Wild Campaign and ensure their guests can continue to experience the magnificent Rhino basking in their natural habitat, whilst also helping in the fight to save this endangered species.
The Wilderness Foundations Forever Wild Campaign was created to address the following urgent issues:
South Africa is the proud custodian to over 80% of the world’s rhinos.
In 2010 alone, 333 rhinos were killed in South Africa by poachers for their horns and in 2011 this number climbed to a staggering 448 rhinos, which is more than one of these beautiful animals being destroyed every single day.
To add insult to injury it has been proven that the horn has no medicinal value what so ever and is not a cure for cancer as believed by some however the horn is still widely sought after, mainly in the East.
The killing will only stop when we all stand together to protect & educate.
The Wilderness Foundation have indicated that funds raised from this important campaign will be used to raise the public awareness of the rhino poaching crisis, purchase much needed equipment for law enforcement agencies, provide logistical and operational support to conservation agencies responsible for rhino security and to facilitate rhino security workshops.
In conjunction with the Wilderness Foundation, we urge you to join the Shamwari Group in the fight to save this magnificent creature.
