High Tea at The Oyster Box Hotel

High Tea at The Oyster Box Hotel

On arrival at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga, I instantly smiled and the first thoughts that came to me were “elegant, reminiscent of a bye gone era”! We were met with such warmth and friendly smiles as our vehicle approached the main entrance. Check in was smooth and effortless. So far so good!! The main areas are beautifully decorated in colonial style, yet not over the top.

The porter kindly gave the kids a welcome pack and some goodies and showed us to our room.  As we walked in – I was truly amazed, such beautiful blue and white colours,  yet still remaining with the colonial charm.  All the modern amenities you can think of, all the little details in the room were perfect. From the “welcome Mr & Mrs Meconi” on the TV screen, to the complimentary amenities in the room, the full platter of goodies and DVD’s in the kids room.  What more could you ask for… well.. when I opened the curtains, the most amazing sea view, the ocean so close that you felt as though you could reach out and touch it. Spectacular!

High tea was an experience, two little kids in such a classy hotel. I thought for a moment that it would be disastrous.. much to my surprise the staff were amazing and high tea went down as a real special occasion. My daughter Emilie, who is 3 years old, actually turned to me and said “ would you like some tea dear” and “ we are just like princesses in a castle mommy”!

That is exactly how we felt. The large variety of mini quiches, sandwiches, muffins, sweet cakes, mousses etc that were available just blew me away. Breakfast was even more spectacular and the views over the terrace by the pool into the ocean – just made you forget about the rest of the world.

I can highly recommend the Oyster Box hotel to any client, be it honeymooners, family travellers or simple individuals. You won’t be disappointed by their excellent service, the friendly staff and amazing property.
