Valentines Day in Cape Town

Valentines Day in Cape Town

February (and Valentine’s Day) is coming up and with Cape Town being one of the most spectacular cities in Africa it is no wonder that I immediately think of this dazzling city as number one on the list of romantic African vacation spots. From hot-air balloon rides over verdant vineyards, horse-riding on the beach, decadent wine and chocolate tastings on century-old wine farms to picnics on Table Mountain with endless views. You simply cannot go wrong.

Accommodation options abound and if you’re a groom-to-be planning that perfect honeymoon or simply looking to rekindle the romance, we highly recommend including some of the following options in and around Cape Town and the Cape Winelands.

The secluded Tinstwalo Atlantic, situated just outside Hout Bay at the base of Chapman’s Peak, will seduce you with unbelievably romantic rooms, literally at the water’s edge. If you want to be a little closer to the action then spoil yourself with incredible sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean from the luxurious Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa. Situated just outside Camps Bay we recommend booking a Sea-Facing Suite. Treat your love to a signature treatment at the Sanctuary Spa and dinner under the stars at Azure Restaurant is an absolute must.

La Residence is as grand and opulent as the name suggests. Situated in the Franschhoek wine valley this boutique hotel features exquisite suites and a location to match. In my opinion the Chambre Bleu Suite is one of the most romantic and the palatial bathroom is gorgeous.

If you love food (almost as much as you love your partner) then Le Quartier Francais will leave you smiling. This boutique hotel is located in the heart of Franschhoek Village and specializes in gastronomy; it therefore goes without saying that you simply must include dinner at The Tasting Room, voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the world for the last five years. You’ll be delighted to know that the rooms are fabulous too, offering big beds, decadent fabrics and luxury amenities.

End your perfect journey with a unique safari experience a little further afield in the hauntingly beautiful Klein Karoo. Situated about three hours’ drive from Cape Town, Sanbona Dwyka Tented Lodge is an enchanting luxury tented camp, set in a horse-shoe bend of a dry Karoo ravine. The lodge is surrounded by spectacular rock formations and these are best enjoyed from your private deck. At night, dine under diamond skies. With no artificial light the stargazing here is phenomenal.
