New requirements for minors travelling through South Africa

Since the 1st of June 2015, South Africa has implemented new requirements for all children under 18 years of age who are travelling to, from or transferring through South Africa. See below the documents required for the two most common cases:


Minor accompanied by both parents

  • unabridged birth certificate (or equivalent document) of the child which shows details (full names) of both parents


Minor accompanied by one parent

  • an unabridged birth certificate of the child
  • a consent in the form of an affidavit from the other parent registered as a such on the birth certificate, authorising them to enter or depart from South Africa with the child
