Fairmont Mara Safari Camp has a prime location on the forested bank of the Mara River. The river surrounds the camp on three sides, and although this is a larger property there’s still plenty of privacy as each tent is tucked amongst trees. Sitting out on your deck you can hear birds in the branches and hippo in the river, while troops of baboons forage on the opposite bank.
Set out on morning and afternoon game drives led by your expert Kenyan guide. The Masai Mara is an extraordinary wildlife reserve that offers up regular sightings of all of Africa’s Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) along with cheetah, zebra, giraffe and more. You also have the option of a guided bush walk or a hot air balloon safari – a truly magical experience!
The main lodge at Fairmont Mara has a welcoming lounge with deep armchairs and carved wooden side tables. Décor incorporates rich reds and oranges with beaded lamps, woven wall hangings and Maasai artefacts. There’s internet access to catch up with family back home, a library of books, wood-panel bar and a large fireplace that crackles into life in the evenings.
The lodge opens onto a wide deck where meals are served al fresco style overlooking the Mara River. There’s an outdoor heated swimming pool with a poolside bar, as well as private massage tents where an excellent masseur can work out any niggles after hours spent in a safari vehicle.
