Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Africa, the luxury Governors' Camp takes you back to an old-fashioned pace of life with its stylish canvas tents and yet offers the best of modern amenities. Set in the prime wildlife region of the Masai Mara Game Reserve are the 37 traditionally designed luxury safari tents of Governors' Camp. You will watch some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife spectacles while being well cared for.

There is an overwhelming sense of space at this camp yet you are right in the action especially during the annual wildebeest migration during the months between July and October. This area was initially reserved exclusively for Kenya’s colonial governors and the ambience of that era still resounds in the classic and elegant decor and sense of service. There are tents set aside for honeymooners or those looking for complete privacy however the overall atmosphere at this safari destination is one of romance and luxury.

Choose from spacious tents lining the riverbank or ones that have views over the sweeping plains. All of the rooms offer the comfort of a luxury hotel. Go game viewing, on guided walks, cultural visits, hot air balloon safaris and more. From the delicious breakfasts, great lunches through to the 4-course dinners you will be swept away by the attention to detail and service that is paid here.

Governors' Camp – old-style authentic luxury safari charm

Sleep in comfort in the spacious safari tents that are either spread out along the riverbank or overlooking the plains of Masai Mara. All of these classically designed rooms have en-suite bathrooms with both hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The private verandas offer fantastic game viewing opportunities as well. There are gas and paraffin lamps in the tents and 220 volt plugs at reception.

Between game activities book yourself into the spa for relaxing treatments or spend some time on the communal deck in comfortable chairs with a really good book. Meals are served up in the dining tent or around the campfire and the bar tent is a great place to socialise with your fellow guests. There is also a small gallery on site offering local paintings and handcrafts for sale as well as a small souvenir shop.

There is plenty to do at this luxury safari camp starting with game drives in the morning and late afternoon. You can also opt for a guided walking safari in a neighbouring conservancy with guides who have unparalleled knowledge of the reserve. Accompanying Maasai scouts will give you insights into plants that are used for traditional medicinal purposes and some interesting Maasai folklore. You can track game including giraffe, buffalo, hyena, zebra and even lion if you are feeling brave enough.

From here it is possible to book for a day trip to Lake Victoria or sign up for a specialist guiding experience if you are a birdwatcher or keen photographer. And for the ultimate Masai Mara experience go up in a hot air balloon and float above it all in absolute silence.

The luxury Governors' Camp is set in the Kenya’s prestigious game reserve, Masai Mara.
