In the spacious eighteen tents with their private wooden verandas, you will find vast wooden beds with their own views over the surrounding landscapes, hardwood floors, leather chairs and other decor elements that reflect the spirit of the vintage safari experience. You will be staying in the location of the final scene from the iconic Out of Africa movie and the romance of this era is reflected in every detail of the camps. There are two camps offering intimate luxury accommodation in nine suites each. All of the rooms are tucked away in the forests found on the edge of the Masai Mara Reserve and are secluded by lush green vegetation offering your privacy.

However if you are there during the months between July and October you will be privileged to see the spectacular Great Migration of millions of wildebeest heading north in search of fresh water and grass.

Celebrate life in style at this classic safari destination. The two camps, with nine secluded suites in each, have been designed with your every comfort in mind. The spacious tents overlook the plains and all have spacious verandas so that you can relax while game-viewing from a comfortable chair! Sleep in vast wooden beds on polished hardwood floors; relax in deep leather chairs on the private veranda of your luxury tent or around the dining area. The en-suite bathrooms have stone showers and warm wood furnishings just adding to that feeling of complete luxury. Intriguing antiques, hand-crafted artefacts, books and brass and silver finishings complete the picture to create the ambience needed for a romantic African sojourn. There is a private lap pool from where you can look out onto the endless African plains and the abundance of wildlife that inhabit it.

Fine dining is on offer in the main area and delicious meals are served up on fine china and great wines in crystal glasses. You can choose from a range of both international and local cuisine.

This is a great year round destination for superlative game viewing. Expect to see all the members of the Big Five plus a myriad of other mammals and hundreds of species of birds. Game drives and nature walks are the order of the day and full day game drives are available on request. Accompanied by professional guides and trackers you will learn an enormous amount about the animals, their habitat and strange habits. If you are lucky you might spot lions after a kill, elephants in full charge or a herd of zebra galloping across the plains.

There are many ways to explore this region; you could also take to the air for a hot air balloon trip. These silent journeys leave a lasting impact on one’s soul. If you are travelling to this luxury camp during the months between July and October you will be privileged to witness one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles – the Great Migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra moving across the plains. They are of course followed by hungry predators such as the lion, leopard and hyena.

Bateleur Camp is situated on a private concession, Kichwa Tembo, in the Masai Mara region of Kenya. 

Two scheduled flights operate from Nairobi’s Wilson airport on a daily basis (approximately 1 hour in duration). On arrival at Kichwa Tembo’s private airstrip an exciting 30-minute game drive will see you to your safari camp.
