Enjoy your African safari experience amidst a herd of resident Rothschild Giraffe at Nairobi’s Giraffe Manor. These beautiful but gawky animals will seek your attention at the breakfast table, try and poke their heads in through your bedroom window and overall add colour to the most charming African vacation experience you could possibly have.
Set within 140 acres of indigenous forests, only 20km away from Nairobi’s city centre, Giraffe Manor welcomes you to an authentic, utterly charming luxury stay. The Manor was built in the 1930s and the carefully preserved decor reflects the ambience of this era. All six double bedrooms are fitted out with four poster beds and antique furnishings. The romantic atmosphere is deepened when dining out on the terrace under the African night sky. In the day hang out on the spacious verandas enjoying the views of the Ngong Hills and taking the opportunity to feed a giraffe or two.
Giraffe are not the only resident wildlife here; you will be living amidst warthogs, bushbuck, the dik dik as well as 180 species of birds. Spend your days exploring the reserve and surrounding attractions, both in Nairobi itself and the outlying areas. Above all, relax into this luxury African safari experience.
Giraffe Manor – unique, exclusive luxury African accommodation
The emphasis at this luxury accommodation venue is on charm and comfort. The original 1930s decor, romantic four poster beds and antique furnishings in all six en-suite luxury rooms provide the setting for an amazing African vacation. The resident herd of giraffe add just that unique and unforgettable touch to the experience.
The sitting room is gracefully furnished with large windows looking directly onto the surrounding sanctuary and wandering giraffes and the large verandas and terraces offer you the opportunity to gaze on the famous Ngong Hills while feeding a curios giraffe. Choose to dine outdoors on the spacious patio under the night skies or indoors in the striking wood-panelled dining room. The cuisine is traditional with modern influences and some rather striking combinations.
Explore the area surrounding the luxury Giraffe Manor, the Giraffe Centre is a breeding centre for the Rothschild Giraffe and they also run a 1.5km nature trail that meanders through the forest and a habitat that has been preserved and protected. You will come across a variety of animals besides the giraffe. More than 180 species of bird have been spotted here and there are a variety of buck that live on the premises as well as warthogs. Hyenas and leopard have also been spotted, if you are lucky you could catch sight of these elusive predators.
The city centre of Nairobi is only 20km away so you can easily explore the attractions of this cosmopolitan town including the national museums, heritage houses including that of Karen Blixen (author of ‘Out of Africa’) and browse through the colourful local markets to look for presents and souvenirs of your stay.
Another animal sanctuary well worth visiting is the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage; this charity organisation rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephants and rhinos. The best times to visit are feeding and bath times for some fun and games with these rambunctious youngsters.
Giraffe Manor is located just 20km outside of Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi and set within a 140-acre indigenous forest.
