Mauritius — African Island Holidays

Does the idea of soaking up the sun on white, sandy beaches appeal to you? Or would you prefer to scuba dive amidst coral gardens and tropical fish? The green-emerald island of Mauritius, swathed in the translucent, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, is the perfect venue for a relaxing family vacation, or a pampered honeymoon.

Magical, Idyllic, Tropical Paradise.

The magical island of Mauritius boasts one of the most naturally beautiful locations in the world; an idyllic destination for refined travellers looking for luxury accommodation, outstanding scenery and world-class facilities. A favoured destination for honeymooners because of the romantic island ambience it is also a great choice for families as many of the luxurious resorts cater specifically for younger guests.

Set 2400km off the south-eastern coastline of Africa, this tropical island is only 45km in width and 65km in length. Created by volcanic action, it is sheltered by coral reefs that protect beautiful lagoons perfect for swimming and snorkelling in. White sandy beaches stretch around the coastline, fringed by palm trees and luxury resorts. Although very popular, it truly is a dream destination for anyone looking to get away from it all. The cultural mix of Arabs, Dutch, French and British who have all colonized the island at some point is reflected in the architecture, cuisine and language of the local inhabitants. It is easy to get around the island and all of the different sectors boast unusual attractions and features.

In the well-developed northerly part with its beautiful hotels and pristine beaches you will find Grand Baie, the island’s largest resort town and very popular with tourists and locals alike. Besides exclusive accommodation and exciting activities, the eastern coastline of Mauritius is also home to the exquisite and popular Ile aux Cerfs, known for its amazing lagoon, white sand beaches and fabulous swimming and snorkelling opportunities.

Splendid scenery awaits you on the wilder southerly region of the island. Although the beaches are less sheltered, the south is unspoilt and offers spectacular mountain scenery and verdant vegetation.

The west and north-west regions with its clear, calm waters are ideal for families. Here you will find the capital city of Port Louis, well-known for its colourful markets and the famous Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, the oldest of its  kind in the southern hemisphere.

Mauritius for you:

This is a fantastic year-round destination with balmy weather ranging from 22° Celsius in winter to 34° Celsius in summer and a short rainy season from January to March. There are weekly flights into the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, the only international airport on the island, by a variety of airlines from all major European cities as well as daily flights from South Africa.
