Marlin Lodge

The 17 luxury suites at the beautiful Marlin Lodge all face onto the ocean; handmade from local hardwood trees, the reed ‘wall’s cover brick and thatch provides shade from the beating hot sun. Choose from the 14 Beach Suites for cosier and more intimate accommodation or book into a private luxury suite for extra space and comforts. The beach suites are set only a few steps away from the white sand beaches of Flamingo Bay and each offers a private veranda from which to watch the spectacular sunsets of this region. Decorated in practical yet sophisticated finishes from the plastered surfaces, soft lighting to the slated floor, these en-suite rooms all have roof fans as well as air-conditioning, a romantic four-poster bed with mosquito netting, private lounge, inside and outside showers, mini-bar and luxury amenities. The private luxury suites boast elegant Afro-chic decor and include all of the above facilities; upgrade even further to one of the three Executive Beach Suites, each with its own private walkway to the beach.

All of the luxury suites are joined to the communal area by elevated walkways that go over the abundance of natural vegetation beneath.  Dine in sumptuous style in the classic dining room, on the soft sandy beach as a picnic or BBQ or order in to eat on the private balcony of your luxury suite. The chefs at this luxury lodge go out of their way to create a masterful menu featuring the seafood of the area imbued with Portuguese influences and encourage you to savour it slow-food style.

Cool off in the freshwater swimming pool or lounge around on the communal decks or in the reading room playing board games or just relaxing with that novel you just never had time to get around too.

You might not want to even leave the lodge as there is so much on offer from the opportunity to spend time with the chefs, both local and international, who will take you on a guided tour around the renowned vegetable and herb gardens, the produce of which is used in the delicious meals served up at this luxury lodge. More than that, they offer you the chance to learn how to prepare a three course Mozambiquan meal that is sure to impress friends back home.

And then there is the Beauty & Wellness Spa Centre with is fabulous range of treatments to get you in the mood for island romance and adventure. Go horse-riding, swimming or book for a day tour to neighbouring islands to get a feel for the entire archipelago – it is possible to enjoy a picnic on the beach of deserted islands where you are the only ones around.

Once you step out of your luxury suites onto the soft white sands of Indigo Bay and into the warm waters surrounding the Bazaruto Archipelago you will be lost to an enchanting world of tropical fish, coral reefs and more. Explore the ocean through snorkelling, diving, sailing or waterskiing. There are some superb diving spots regardless of your experience and you can take this chance to brush up on your skills with accredited dive instructors. Anglers will be in their element as this is a favoured destination for gamefish such as the famed marlin, yellowfin tuna and Dorado.

Marlin Lodge is set on Benguerra Island in the stunning Bazaruto Archipelago off the Mozambiquan coastline. This luxury lodge is accessible by boat only; you can fly into Vilanculos by scheduled or charter flight from a variety of African destinations including OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the boat which takes approximately half an hour to reach the island.
