Doro Nawas – luxury, bush camping in the heart of Damaraland.

The luxury accommodation at Doro Nawas comprises 16 chalets built from a combination of a stone base and canvas walls with wooden posts. All of the spacious, open-plan rooms have en-suite bathrooms and complementary shampoo, body lotions and hand creams are provided as well as towels. You are welcome to wheel your beds outside onto the private verandas and take advantage of the warmer nights to enjoy the stars.

Guests are welcome to make use of the swimming pool, bar and the roof of the main complex. A full laundry service is available. Wholesome country cuisine is served in the Doro Nawas dining room.

Activities at Doro Nawas revolve around the dramatic landscape. A visit to Twyfelfontein to view the rock art is a must as is a trip to the Petrified Forest. In this arid area, game viewing is successful anywhere that there is water and trips along the riverbed to view many types of buck as well as bat-eared foxes, hyenas and jackals are on offer. If you are lucky you might spot the desert-adapted elephant and well as the endangered black rhino and cheetah.

Bird life is prolific in this area and many endemic Namibian species such as the Damara Hornbill, Carp’s tit and Rüpell’s Korhaan can be seen in the skies around the camp. Raptors including Martial Eagles, Lappet-faced Vultures and the Pale Chanting Goshawk are also native to this region. There is an amazing diversity of flora in the region that has adapted to the desert and can be viewed on nature walks or during game drives. There is also a walking trail in the vicinity of the lodge that can be hiked with or without a guide.
