Not only will you be on the doorstep of the desert when staying at the luxury Kulala Desert Lodge, it also has its own gate into the Namib Naukluft Park for the road to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, making it quicker and easier for you to get there in time for sunrise!

Sleep comfortably in the thatched luxury chalets on their wooden platforms with flat rooftops so that you can sleep under the stars. Central to your comfort is the Kulala Desert Lodge’s main area with a lounge, bar, dining area, plunge pool and wrap-around veranda overlooking the waterhole. Breakfasts are hearty buffets to give you energy for the day, if you are staying at the lodge for lunch a selection of cold dishes is on offer and dinner, of course, is a luxury 3-course affair.

Spend your days on game drives, visits to the tallest dunes in the world or hot-air ballooning over the Namib Desert and in between grab some time for yourself in contemplation of the awe-inspiring vastness of the desert on your doorstep.

Accommodation at Kulala Desert Lodge is in one of 15 luxury chalets; there are also family suites available. All of these ‘rooms’ are built to withstand desert conditions, they are up on platforms to ensure maximum airflow and the thatched roofs keep them cool during the day; ceiling fans also help by providing a constant breeze.

All have en-suite bathrooms with showers and the necessary amenities. Roofs are flat and you are welcome to sleep under the stars when the weather is good or relax on the private veranda with its view of the dunes. There is a safe provided for valuables in each chalet and complementary soaps, shampoos, body lotion, torch and inset repellent for your convenience. 

 

Enjoy a variety of excursions at Kulala Desert Lodge from the Sossusvlei sunrise trip where you will be served breakfast on the dunes to morning, afternoon and night drives in the desert. There are guided walks available on the reserve and to gain a different perspective of the Namib Desert take to the air for a hot-air balloon trip. Head out to the Naukluft Mountains with their cool pools and dramatic red cliffs or explore the Tsauchab River Trail and learn more about the fascinating Namib ecosystem.

If you feel the need to stay still, relax around the plunge pool or on the deck overlooking the waterhole and just soaking up the desert atmosphere. An optional extra is a visit to what must surely be the driest wine farm in the world, Neuras, for a tour of the vineyards and a wine tasting. Horse Riding Safaris and Camel Rides are also available on request.
