Journey through the Namib in harmony with the environment and savour the personal and sumptuous style of Little Kulala, the gateway to Namibia’s extraordinary Sossusvlei, where the world’s tallest dunes can be found.
Set among ancient camel-thorn trees on the dry Auab riverbed, it offers first-rate facilities, charming hospitality and close proximity to the towering red sand dunes of the Namib Desert. There is no better way to experience the famed ‘Sand Sea’ than in the flesh.
This luxurious desert retreat is situated in the private 37 000-hectare (91 500-acre) Kulala Wilderness Reserve. The 11 climate-controlled, thatched ‘kulalas’ (the word means ‘to sleep’) merge seamlessly into the desert landscape, each offering a private plunge pool and indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a rooftop ‘sky bed’ for romantic stargazing.
Little Kulala offers accommodation in 11 luxurious canvas-and-thatch villas. These merge seamlessly into the desert landscape, with innovative bleached decks each with a private plunge pool.
Pure linens, cottons and mohair dyed with natural vegetable dyes all make for a very organic camp which takes its inspiration from its surroundings, notably from the magnificent Dead Vlei in the middle of Sossusvlei. The overall mood and feel is cool, serene, organic and sheltering.
Each unit has a staircase leading to a private roof deck perfect for sunsets and stargazing. Bedrolls are provided for sleep-outs under the stars.
Little Kulala has all the services guests would expect to find at a deluxe property. In addition to impeccable service and attention to detail, the lodge also features facilities such as a wine cellar, curio shop, library, a fully-stocked bar and outdoor and indoor dining areas. There are also both indoor and outdoor showers, true to the sumptuous style of Little Kulala and Wilderness Safaris’ renowned hospitality.
