Escape to the solitude and silence of the Messum Crater with its crystal rock saltpans and on the way stop off lichen fields and admire the Welwitschia plants, some of which are nearly 2 000 year old and referred to as living fossils, before moving on to view the enigmatic rock art of the region.

Of course this area is a favoured destination for fishermen and the luxury lodge will organise bait, tackle, meals and refreshments for your day at or on the water. The surfing is great here but you will need to bring your own board to experience the wild rides available at the Skeleton Coast, kayak hire is available. Go hunting for wrecks such as the Winston and learn the history of this desolate area.

Before you leave the Skeleton Coast make sure to visit a desert waterhole and experience the buoyancy of the water, similar to that of the Dead Sea!
