The Vineyard is a deluxe 207-roomed hotel in Newlands, Cape Town, with a staff complement of 300, all of whom go out of their way to make things exceedingly pleasant for their guests. Dining here is a delight. The hotel boasts two Diners Club Wine platinum-award-winning restaurants, The Square and Myoga. There’s also the patio and the garden lounge, where guests can enjoy delicious light meals, including sushi, or splurge on a Lady Anne Barnard Afternoon Tea – a tempting spread of sandwiches, quiches, cakes, scones and a variety of teas – while taking in the stunning views of Table Mountain. When Andrew and Lady Anne Barnard bought the original Vineyard, the property boasted 22 000 vines covering nine hectares – as a fitting tribute to the hotel’s 115-year history, a new vineyard was planted along the banks of the Liesbeek River in October 2008.
