Morukuru Lodge

The beautiful bush villas of Morukuru Lodge cater for small groups of family and friends looking for an intimate African wilderness experience. There are three villas able to accommodate different size parties and all have their own charm and promise.

Set in the shade of the Big Morukuru Tree is the Owner’s House with two spacious en-suite bedrooms, an elegant dining room, plush lounge and a fully equipped private kitchen. Make use of the private wine cellar featuring some of South Africa’s greatest wines and relax under the stars at night in the outdoor bath. Taking luxury to new heights is the heated pool and private outdoor sala available for use by guests at the Owner’s House.

For larger parties and families, the Lodge, set on the banks of the Groot Marico River, can sleep six adults and four junior guests. The three suites are sumptuous and offer every comfort imaginable. Children will be delighted by facilities such as television, a DVD player and board games in their own ‘kid’s room’. There is a small library of books available, a heated infinity pool, a boma for outdoor feasts and an al fresco dining garden.

The restored Farm House offers luxury accommodation for up to ten guests in five en-suite bedrooms. With all the mod-cons and luxury facilities of the other villas, guests here also have exclusive use of the pools, a wine cellar and can relax and interact in the large lounge, dining room with fireplace or on the wooden decks.

Relax in these spaces with their elegant and uniquely African feel and enjoy the views over the surrounding landscape. Meals can be taken in a variety of venues and at your convenience as your personal chef is standing by to cater to your every whim. You can choose to dine indoors, al fresco on the pool deck or in the shaded garden area. At night, you should head to the boma with its central fireplace, for a fabulous dinner under the stars.

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the best game viewing destinations in Africa. The unspoilt wilderness is home to an abundance of wildlife including more than 400 elephants. Lion and leopard frequent the area due to the high numbers of antelope including gemsbok and springbok. You will also spot black and the rare white rhinoceros, buffalo, giraffe and the elusive wild dog. You personal game ranger and a tracker are always on standby with a safari vehicle to take you into the bush for up-close viewing of these beautiful animals. A great destination if you are into birds as there have been more than 340 species sighted in this region so remember to bring your bird book and binoculars along.

The best time for game viewing is in the early morning and late afternoon and your dedicated 4x4 safari vehicle is on standby whenever the urge takes you or sign up for a bush walk. Other activities on offer include fishing, mini-adventures outdoors for children, romantic sleepovers at a double-storey bird hide for adults and cultural experiences. Else soak up the sun’s rays around the pool, book for a massage, take an afternoon nap under the majestic Tamboti trees or retreat to your room with a good book.
