The five spacious en-suite bedrooms at this luxury lodge can cater for up to ten people; the king-sized beds can be made up as twin beds. There are overhead fans in all of the rooms and the en-suite bathrooms are spacious with generous showers. The lounge, which is also a private pub, has a satellite TV and fireplace for those chilly winter nights. The personal chef will prepare your meals on-site in the kitchen and serve them in the dining room or outdoor boma, whichever your prefer. Spend some time on the outdoor patio with its impressive views or lounging around the private swimming pool.

During one of these drives you will board the Kariega Queen for a majestic cruise down the Kariega River. This is a great way to view game as they are often found along the banks of the river. Alternatively you can take out one of the canoes for an even quieter and more private viewing experience. Head into the bush on foot along one of the many well-marked hiking trails that have been laid out in the predator-free eastern section of the reserve; this is a fantastic way of getting up close to smaller animals as well as finding out more about the unique vegetation of the area.

One of the attractions of choosing the luxury Kariega Homestead is the proximity of the golden beach at Kenton-on-Sea, only a 15 minute drive away. There are also a variety of small and very charming towns in close proximity to the lodge that are worth exploring; these include Bathurst, Salem, Grahamstown and Port Alfred, all with strong historical links to South Africa’s past. Golfers should book at the Royal Port Alfred (25 minutes away) or the Gary-Player designed course at the Fish River Sun (40 minutes away) for a round or two during their stay at the luxury Kariega Homestead.
