More than a world-class safari destination, Kwandwe Game Reserve is a resounding community and conservation success story! Four award-winning luxury lodges grace the unspoilt wilderness of this malaria-free private game reserve in the rugged Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
The Great Fish River meanders peacefully through the pristine bush, where the Big Five of Africa roam freely, among a diversity of other magnificent predators and prey. Kwandwe excels in superb nighttime game viewing, exceptional bird watching and special interest safaris - Big Five game walks and rhino conservation safaris.
Choose between two luxurious sole-use villas, Uplands Homestead and Melton Manor, resplendent with personal chef and dedicated butler. Game drives are conducted by your private host / game ranger, accompanied by a wildlife tracker, in the villa's own 4x4 vehicle.
Ecca Lodge is ideal for young families, offering a laid-back and contemporary safari experience in a fun Afro-chic setting. The spacious rooms flow out onto viewing decks looking out over the surrounding valley bush, while the lively interiors keep the feel funky and modern. The Great Fish River Lodge is a sophisticated retreat, focussed on lapping up the tranquil quietness and open spaces of Kwandwe Reserve. Panoramic views open up from balconies with private plunge pools, outdoor showers and elegant suites with fold-away glass doors across their entire fronts.
The Kwandwe safari adventure is an intimate and exclusive experience of understated luxury in the pristine wilderness, shared with only a few.
From the four ultra-comfortable lodges guests explore 22,000 hectares of untamed wilderness, where the iconic Big 5 of Africa roam freely, among a plethora of other weird and wonderful creatures. A private stretch of the Great Fish River meanders through the unspoilt Kwandwe Reserve, which falls on either side, providing guests with top-notch game viewing.
Kwandwe features 22 plush rooms across its two upmarket lodges and two sole-use villas.
All four of the lodges feature swimming pools, with the Ecca and Great Fish River lodges also boasting private plunge pools, some of which are even solar heated.
Both Ecca and Great Fish River flow out onto expansive viewing decks overlooking the untamed bush, whilst the two sole-use villas have deep verandahs for sitting back and enjoying the scenery in private.
Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 safari vehicles by experienced game rangers and skilled wildlife trackers. Tailor-made game drives offer a private game viewing adventure in the remote reserve. Leisurely afternoon high teas are served at the lodges and sundowners in the bush for admiring the beautiful African sunsets.
Kwandwe is ideal for children, offering babysitting, fun goodie bags, children's menus and exciting activities, including safe game drives, baking, wildlife and art activities to keep young ones enthralled.
Kwandwe is located only 165 km from the coast, near the historic town of Grahamstown. The game reserve falls in the malaria-free Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, not far from the well-loved Garden Route. About 160 km (100 miles) west of the game reserve lies the coastal city of Port Elizabeth, which is serviced by daily flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg. There are scheduled daily flights between Port Elizabther Airport and the Kwandwe airstrip, as well as charter flights and road transfer services.
