&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge – an extraordinary African safari adventure

The three camps with ten stilted suites each are spread around the rim of the crater so that you never miss out on the chance to spot game and marvel in the magnificent views. The suites are handcrafted in the local style of mud and thatch and inside a world of pure fantasy and romance await you. The floor-to-ceiling windows, beaded chandeliers, paneled walls, huge showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs are some of the luxury touches inside the luxury suites. Mists and clouds swirl around the suites keeping the temperature down and allowing the flourishing of plant and animal life in the region. Elegant and unique though the suites might be the communal lodge with its reclining leather chairs in front of roaring fires, domed dining rooms and brocade sofas ensures your comfort wherever you may be.

Start the morning with a wake-up call from your butler bringing fresh tea or coffee and then tuck into a hearty breakfast. Lunch is a picnic served mid-game drive on the crater floor and dinner a sumptuous affair with crystal glassware, sparkling silver and delicious cuisine.

With close on 30 000 animals living in the confined space of the crater, this is one place that you will not have to look far too spot wildlife including the Big Five. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra roam the grassy floor as well as the endangered black rhino and a large number of lions. Cheetahs move in and out of the region and leopard are often encountered in the Lerai Forest. These marshes on the crater floor as well as the highland meadows are the stomping grounds of elephants and for spectacular bird viewing head to Lake Magadi where thousands of flamingos descend on the saline lake.

The guides on the game drives are all extremely well-trained and will add an extra dimension to your experience with their stories and knowledge. For even more intense experiences book for a private guided safari in the region or host a crater floor banquet with personalised butler service; enjoy sundowners on the crater rim and when you head back to camp, surprise your family or friends by booking a Maasai guard of honour to meet you – almost 200 warriors wearing traditional dress and carrying flaming torches will chant and dance as you make your way into camp!
