The Elephant Camp overlooks Bakota Gorge and the mists of Victoria Falls, from its superb location within a private wildlife concession inside Victoria Falls National Park. As the name suggests, this luxury tented camp is well known for its elephant: both those that gather at the camp waterhole and the elephant herd at the wildlife sanctuary on the property.
This is an intimate and exclusive safari lodge offering luxurious tented accommodation a short drive from Victoria Falls. The staff are fantastic and there's a driver who will take you into town giving you easy access to the buzz of the falls and its huge array of adventure activities, as well as a peaceful retreat to return to afterwards.
Each of the twelve elegant canvas suites has glass sliding doors opening onto a private deck and plunge pool with spectacular views. The suites are wonderfully spacious and have a four-poster bed, large wardrobe, lounge area, and both air conditioning and fans to ensure a cool, comfortable stay. The bathrooms are a highlight too: take in the views while soaking in your deep bathtub or choose from your indoor and outdoor showers.
Meals are served on the main deck which looks out towards the mist rising up from "the Smoke that Thunders" (as Victoria Falls is locally known). The lounge and bar area has plenty of cushioned couches and is a great place to socialise with the other guests, or you can opt for a spa treatment in the privacy of your suite.
The Elephant Camp also offers close-up wildlife encounters with a visit to the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary where you can go on an elephant-back safari and feed baby, orphaned elephants. But probably your most memorable encounter will be with Sylvester, the camp's cheetah that you can accompany on his bush walk to the gorges of the Zambezi River.
