The Kariega Story

The malaria-free Kariega Game Reserve is set on nearly 9,000 hectares of African wilderness in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. Situated only 80 minutes from the region’s capital Port Elizabeth, the family owned and managed Kariega is a natural extension to the Garden Route.  The reserve offers a combination of Big Five game-viewing and an expansive variety of fauna, flora and birdlife in a landscape that spans five ecosystems. In addition to thrilling game-viewing from open safari vehicles, the Kariega experience is unique in its offering of well-marked hiking trails laid out in predator-free zones allowing you to get closer to the smaller animal species and better appreciate the natural beauty of the reserve. Diverse activities that include river cruises, canoeing, mountain-biking, fishing, a spa and gym, and visits to the nearby beaches are also on offer. Four unique lodges offer a range of accommodation standards so guests are spoilt for choice.
