The History of Wilderness Safaris

Wilderness Safaris was established over 30 years ago to help preserve some of Africa’s last truly wild places by sharing the magic of these remote wilderness areas with people from across the globe.

Started in Botswana in 1983 by two guides, this unique company grew from the shared passion of few individuals with a vision for the future of Africa’s most pristine natural treasures.

From small beginnings and big ideals Wilderness Safaris has evolved into one of Africa’s leading ecotourism operators - one that lives and breathes the sound social and environmental ethics it was founded upon.

Originally known for their authentic mobile safaris in Botswana, the mobile camping safaris Wilderness runs today offer a more private and exclusive safari experience in the reserves and concession areas of Botswana, Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as the Seychelles.

The Wilderness Camps

Wilderness Safaris immerses guests in nature at small and intimate camps tucked away within an array of the best, hand-picked wilderness areas in Africa.

These camps are designed, built and operated to have a minimal impact on the precious natural environments that they are nestled inside.
