A night of luxury in a tree-filled Johannesburg suburb sets you up for an exceptional big game safari at Richard Branson’s Ulusaba Rock Lodge in Sabi Sands Private Reserve. Following early morning safari starts, there’s nothing better than a few lazy days of sun, sea and snorkelling – enjoy all that and more in the Bazaruto Archipelago before rounding off your holiday at the elegant Cape Grace Hotel in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Cape Town.
On arrival in Johannesburg you'll be met at OR Tambo International Airport and transferred to 10 2nd Avenue Houghton Estate. Lying an easy 25-minute drive from the airport, this elegant boutique hotel is set in beautifully landscaped gardens and offers a quiet retreat to recover from your long-haul flight.
Being a boutique hotel, this accommodation has a wonderfully personal feel with staff who are both professional and friendly. There are plenty of little extras too, such as freshly baked shortbread left in your room at night. For dinner you can either opt to dine out on the verandah or simply order in – room service includes the full dinner menu, a nice touch!
After a champagne breakfast overlooking the garden you’ll be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight to Ulusaba’s private airstrip.
Richard Branson’s Ulusaba Rock Lodge has just 10 suites perched high on a “koppie” (rocky hill) in the Sabi Sands Private Reserve. Game viewing in the Sabi Sands is such a treat: this is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big 5, and since guides are allowed to drive off-road you can get really close to your sightings.
Between game drives there’s plenty of time to relax: lounge on your private deck with its phenomenal bushveld views, take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool or treat yourself to a couple's massage at the lodge spa. Other activities offered by Ulusaba include bush breakfasts, guided safari walks, evening drinks next to the hippo pool and star gazing at the bush observatory.
From Ulusaba private airstrip it’s a short flight to Kruger International Airport, where you’ll board your flight to Vilanculos in Mozambique. In Vilanculos you’ll be met and assisted with check in for your final flight of the day – a short hop across to the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago.
Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort has thatched chalets on a broad, sandy sweep of beach. If your ideal island holiday involves doing as little as possible, then you can easily find a quiet stretch of sand to simply relax and soak up the sun. Otherwise there’s heap of activities to choose from including kayaking, water skiing, deep sea fishing, exploring the island’s dunes and forests of horse back or we’d highly recommend a snorkelling trip to the reefs off Paradise Island.
As for the resort itself is has two swimming pools, a couple of tennis courts and a spa facing out towards the sky-blue ocean views. In the evening, look forward to a seafood barbeque on the beach or themed buffet with a Mozambican or Portuguese influence.
Fly to Vilanculos, and from there via Johannesburg down to the beautiful city of Cape Town. Here you’ll be met and transferred to the Cape Grace Hotel, set in one of the city’s most sought-after locations - with its own private quay at heart of the V&A Waterfront.
Cape Town is a city that deserves a few days since there’s so much to see and do here. Our favourite activities include a trip to the top of Table Mountain, lazing on the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, and exploring the Cape Peninsula – be sure to stop off at the penguins at Boulders Beach and Cape Point’s rugged cliffs.
Since you’re staying at the Waterfront you’ll have a huge selection of restaurants right on your doorstep, along with the hotel’s own must-try offering - Signal Restaurant. We recommend a trip to the Cape Winelands town of Franschhoek where you can dine at some of the country’s top restaurants while sampling the region’s award-winning wines.
